Kotido, Kacheri Subcounty – In a resplendent display of unity and cultural heritage, the Dodoth from Kaabong and Jie from Kotido came together for a two-day Edonga cultural dancing event, weaving a tapestry of peace and unity through traditional dance.
Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Charles Ichogor delivered a powerful pledge, underscoring his commitment to building a prosperous and peaceful community. “My dear people of Kotido, I promise to work hand in hand with you to build a community where everyone thrives. I will fight corruption with all my might, and ensure that our resources are used for the benefit of all, not just a few individuals.”
LCV Lotee Paul Kacheri Boy and MP Lokii Abraham echoed RDC Ichogor’s sentiments, urging the community to embrace peace and unity. The event organizer, Hellen Kacheri Gal, was commended for her innovative approach to peacebuilding.
In a surprising move, RDC Ichogor revealed that he had learned the Edonga dance and vowed to actively participate in the next event. “I had a wonderful time learning from the Dodoth and Jie communities, and I look forward to joining in next time. Who knows, maybe I’ll even lead a dance troupe!”The event was a resounding success, with community members dancing through the night without fear, marking a significant milestone in the community’s journey towards peace and unity.
“Peace is a journey, not a destination. Let us continue to walk together, and build a brighter future for ourselves and our children,” RDC Ichogor noted.
The peace dance ceremony celebrated the prevailing peace in the region, allowing communities to come together and dance through the night, unshackled by the fears of the past.
This event serves as a beacon of hope for a region once plagued by conflict and division. The Edonga dance has become a powerful symbol of unity, transcending cultural and ethnic boundaries.
“I never thought I’d see the day where our communities would come together like this,” said Jie community elder, Lokor Peter. “This dance has brought us closer together.”
“This event has shown us that peace is possible,” said Dodoth community member, Akello Nancy. “We’re committed to sustaining this unity
