KAMPALA – As the nation marks its 63rd Independence Day, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Region, Mr. David Calvin Echodu, has called upon all Ugandans to protect the hard-won gains of sovereignty and work towards a future defined by unity and prosperity.
In an exclusive engagement with this publication, the Honourable Member reflected on the significance of the day, urging a collective recommitment to the nation’s founding ideals.
Hon. Echodu began by paying homage to the architects of Uganda’s freedom, stating that the day is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made.
“On this day, we stand on the hallowed ground of history,” he told this publication. “We pay eternal tribute to the visionary leaders who fought tirelessly for our nation’s sovereignty, laying the foundation upon which we stand today.”
He recounted the nation’s journey from protectorate to self-rule, emphasizing that the lowering of the Union Jack on October 9, 1962, was a moment that signaled “the birth of a new, independent nation, a dream realized through tough resolve.”
Looking to the future, the NRM leader outlined a vision built on core national values. He stressed that the path forward must be paved with unity, resilience, innovation, and a drive for shared prosperity.
“In a world of diverse opinions, our unity remains our greatest strength,” Echodu affirmed. “And our drive for innovation is key to unlocking the vast potential of our youth and natural resources.”
Crucially, Hon. Echodu issued a rallying cry for vigilance, emphasizing that the progress made over the decades must be actively defended by every citizen.
“Now is the time for every Ugandan to play their part in protecting the gains we have so far achieved,” he asserted. “From the peace and stability we enjoy to the economic progress, these are fruits of our collective journey that we must diligently safeguard and build upon.”
He concluded with a powerful call to action, framing the Independence Day celebration not just as a look back, but as a catalyst for future progress.
“Let us use this day as a springboard for renewed patriotism,” Echodu urged. “Let us collectively recommit to safeguarding our beloved Pearl of Africa for the generations to come.”
As we celebrate our 63rd Independence Day on October 9, we honor the visionary leaders who fought for our nation’s sovereignty. Let’s recommit to unity, resilience, innovation, and prosperity, safeguarding our beloved Pearl of Africa for future generations.
Happy Independence!
