Moroto, Uganda – A massive wildfire has swept through Kaloi Village, Nakadeli Parish, Rupa Sub County in Moroto, destroying a homestead and leaving a family in distress. The incident occurred yesterday, sending shockwaves through the community.
Eyewitnesses report that the fire started in the late afternoon, fueled by strong winds and dry conditions. Despite efforts to contain the blaze, it quickly spread, engulfing the homestead and destroying everything in its path.
The family of five, who were residents of the homestead, narrowly escaped with their lives but lost all their belongings. The community has rallied around the affected family, providing them with temporary shelter and support.
The wildfire outbreak in Kaloi Village is the latest in a series of devastating fires to hit the region. Climate change is believed to be a contributing factor, with rising temperatures and changing weather patterns creating conditions ripe for wildfires.
Local leaders are calling for urgent action to address the wildfire threat, including measures to prevent future outbreaks and support for affected communities.
“We urge the government and other stakeholders to provide assistance to the affected family and to take measures to prevent such incidents in the future,” said Lotee Paul Komol LCV Kotido
