The political arena of Dokolo constituency crackled with tension and anticipation as the nomination of candidates for the upcoming by-election kicked off on Monday, March 11, 2024.
In a scene reminiscent of a political circus, seven contenders strutted their stuff to secure their spot in the Dokolo parliamentary race. The atmosphere was electric as each candidate paraded their promises and credentials like peacocks vying for attention.
Leading the pack was the NRM’s Rose Adongo Elau, who blazed through the nomination process with the agility of a seasoned contender. Supporters roared as she clinched her nomination, flaunting her party’s colors like a champion.
Not to be outdone, the opposition rallied their troops. FDC’s Dr. Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal, inheritor of the political legacy of the late Cecilia Ogwal, pledged to carry on her mother’s torch with fervor. The crowd erupted in cheers, echoing the sentiment of continuity in the face of loss.
Meanwhile, the UPC’s Sarah Aguti Nyangkori and the independent Dr. Esther Akullu Obit added their own flavors to the mix, promising change and progress to the people of Dokolo. Their speeches, peppered with populist rhetoric, stirred the hearts of their supporters.
But the drama didn’t end there. National Unity Platform’s Ageno Harriet Nenidiro and independent candidates Rebecca Arao and Dr. Anna Grace Lalam joined the fray, each bringing their own brand of political spectacle to the stage.
As the dust settled on the nomination battleground, the contenders now turn their sights to the ultimate showdown on March 21, 2024. The Dokolo by-election promises to be a clash of titans, where the fate of the constituency hangs in the balance.
