The Okii Raki Okwero Cobo Clan has set Saturday, January 25, 2025, as the burial date for their beloved member, Dr. Wilfred Olila. His gruesome murder has left the Lango community and the nation in shock. Dr. Olila will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Agweng, Lira District.
Speaking on Monday, January 20, 2025, the clan chief, Awitong Shaban Alunga, expressed deep sorrow over the loss and called upon the people of Lango to rally behind the family during this difficult time. “Dr. Olila was a selfless person who dedicated his life to serving others,” Alunga said. “We cannot understand why such a kind and selfless person was taken from us in such a brutal manner.”
Alunga revealed that the body of Dr. Olila was picked from Kaberamaido District General Hospital and later transferred to Lira Regional Referral Hospital mortuary as burial arrangements continue. He appealed for financial and material support to ensure a dignified sendoff for the respected doctor.
“We need everyone’s help to lay Dr. Olila to rest,” Alunga said. “Any form of assistance, financial, moral, or otherwise, will go a long way in honoring his legacy and supporting his family. As a community, we must stand together in the face of such tragedy.”
The clan chief also expressed concern over the lack of progress in the investigation into Dr. Olila’s murder. “The police in Kalaki District, where his body was found, have yet to identify any suspects or provide a report,” he said. “We are waiting for justice and hope the authorities will act swiftly to bring the perpetrators to book.”
Dr. Wilfred Olila’s lifeless body was discovered on January 17, 2025, along the Otuboi-Abalanga road in Ogolai village, Kalaki District. His hands and legs were bound, and his head bore several injuries, suggesting he was violently attacked before being dumped.
The incident, registered under CRB 023/2025 at Kalaki Central Police Station, has drawn widespread condemnation, with the medical and academic communities mourning the loss of one of their esteemed members. Dr. Olila was an ENT specialist at Lira Regional Referral Hospital and a lecturer at Soroti University. His contributions to healthcare earned him admiration and respect nationwide.
The Okii Raki Okwero Cobo Clan urges the community to join them in honoring Dr. Olila’s memory by supporting the burial arrangements and standing in solidarity with the family. As burial preparations continue, the tragedy serves as a painful reminder of the need for security and justice for professionals and citizens alike.
