Duncan Abigaba, a youthful and dedicated NRM supporter, has declared his candidacy for National Vice Chairperson of the ruling party for Western Uganda. Abigaba, a former deputy head of the Government Citizen Interaction Center (GCIC) in the Office of the President, State House, made the announcement in a visual posted on his personal X (formerly Twitter) account.
Abigaba’s candidature aims to address the pressing need to renew and rebrand the party, which has been in power since January 1986. “I am running for the leadership of NRM in Western Uganda to lead the much-needed creative disruption, renew, reform, rebrand, and reshape our party for the future,” he stated.
Abigaba emphasized the need for the NRM party to realign its manifesto with the desires of ordinary citizens, focusing resources on crucial social services. “Our party must realign its policies with the needs of ordinary Ugandans, investing in practical education, accessible and affordable healthcare, youth entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies, while embracing pro-youth, tech-savvy leaders,” he said.
As a member of the Central Executive Committee (CEC), Abigaba would play a key role in providing political leadership, formulating policy, and supervising the party’s activities. The CEC is composed of top party officials, including the chairman, national vice-chairpersons, regional chairpersons, and other key leaders.
