The Soroti City clerk Daniel Christopher Kawesi says that political opportunists and the rivals of Calvin Ecodu have centered on baseless rumours of land to tarnish his name in an attempt to kill his political career hence a trajectory.

The soroti city opulent Calvin Ecodu has finally taken a deeper breath after Soroti City council cleared waves on rumors surrounding his name and Soroti golf club Ltd.
Ecodu who has been mistakenly branded as the land grabber by his political opponents has finally shaken off the golf course dust ahead of his 2026 tarsal with the talkative MP Jonathan Ebwalu who narrowly survived the court verdict in the previous polls.
This comes after the Soroti City clerk Daniel Christopher Kawesi on Monday blankly issued a solid statement to media that Soroti Golf Club Ltd have the legal ownership of plot 10 – 12 of the golf course land for a lease period of 49 years since the year 2008. Therefore, it wouldn’t be prudent for anyone to accuse Mr. Ecodu who is a club’s board member, of grabbing land as it had been rumoured.
In early July 2023, police summoned the notorious councilors and technical staff of Soroti City who put the law into their hands to demolish the magnificent Sports complex that was under construction by Soroti Golf club Ltd on grounds that it was illegally erected.
The murmuring exploded from members of the Soroti community after a section of politicians wrongly informed the public, tagging Ecodu and team as the land grabbers of golf course since he was affiliated to Soroti golf club Ltd.
Sources reveal that Soroti city council in fear of court charges pleaded with Soroti golf club Ltd, later holding the dialogue outside court as a result of panic after their Lawyers foresaw them losing the case to Soroti Golf Club Ltd who sued them on account of Malicious damage and Criminal trespass.
According to the Soroti City Clerk Mr. Daniel Christopher Kawesi, Soroti Golf club Ltd acquired a 49 year lease title on top of the 99 year lease of Soroti city under the then Municipality earlier in 2004.
“There was an error that two land titles were created on the same piece of land for the common reason of maintaining it green. Soroti Golf Club Ltd was created to do Golfing and other sporting activities, therefore there was no sale of land or grabbing the way some people have carelessly misinformed the public,” he said.

Why Soroti Golf club ltd facility was demolished.
“Yes we recently had a dispute which originated from a miss understanding between Soroti City Council and Soroti Golf Club Ltd that led to the demolishing of the facility being raised by them. This was because the two title holders were not relating properly, we therefore had to harmonize ourselves, which is finally being concluded,” Kawesi added.
The city authorities demolished the building on grounds that right procedures and regulations were not followed as per the Physical planning and the infrastructure act considering the fact that Soroti is now a city.
The city officials claim that the agents of Soroti Golf club ltd made some mistakes which they needed to be correct, in the process they brought to their attention that there was a 99 year lease already and yet they also had a 49 year lease on the same piece of land.
Secondly the City engineer was not officially informed about the construction as a requirement.
Thirdly, Soroti golf Club Ltd did not pay the construction fee to the city, neither submitted their construction plan for inspection especially for such an area of public importance.
Lastly the boundaries of the land were not opened and yet the construction had taken off.

Resolutions by Council.
The matter was later brought to council and the first resolution was to make the land title of Soroti golf club Ltd subordinate to that of the City.
Kawesi notes that by so doing, the city council benefits by first of all controlling whatever happens on the land, secondly Soroti golf club Ltd shall collect dues ranging from ground rent, premium and any other development fees.
The city council also resolved that the opening of the land boundaries be done of which the task has been imposed to Soroti golf club Ltd.
Soroti golf club Ltd shall officially inform the City Engineer, planning unit and other relevant authorities, follow the procedures and regulations while starting their construction.
