The elderly in Pabo, Amuru District, received a significant boost as Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Oceng Geoffrey Osborn handed over funds under the Social Assistance Grants for Empowerment (SAGE) program. The initiative, aimed at supporting Uganda’s senior citizens, continues to provide a lifeline for many who face challenges in meeting their basic needs.
During the handover, the elders expressed profound gratitude to the government for prioritizing their welfare. “This program is a token of appreciation and a reason to live. It shows that the government values us as the encyclopedias of our communities,” remarked one elder. They pledged to remain closely aligned with government initiatives to ensure continued benefits from programs like SAGE.
RDC Osborn praised various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Finance and Centenary Bank, for their critical roles in facilitating the seamless implementation of the program. He also encouraged the elderly to actively engage with government programs tailored to their needs, emphasizing the opportunities available to enhance their livelihoods.
The program drew accolades for its architects, including President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Dr. Kenneth Omona, the Minister for Northern Uganda, and Hon. Betty Amongi, the Minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development. Their collaborative efforts have ensured the success of SAGE, which has positively impacted thousands of lives across Uganda.
Elders in Pabo applauded the government for its foresight and pledged to use the funds wisely. They acknowledged that the partnership between the government and institutions like Centenary Bank underscores a shared commitment to inclusive development and the dignity of Uganda’s senior citizens.
