The Iteso Cultural Leader, His Royal Highness Papa Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng, has pledged to lobby for the upgrade of Nalugayi Health Centre III located in Kachumbala, Bukedea Distric, the facility currently serves over 8,000 people from 10 parishes, a population that Emorimor says is too large for a Health Centre III to handle effectively.

“How can a Health Centre III serve 10 parishes with over 8,000 people? This population is so high, it needs an upgrade,” Emorimor expressed with concern, citing the high disease burden in the region.

The Emorimor made this statement during his second tour of Bukedea District as part of his broader mission to address key challenges facing the Iteso people.

He emphasized that many people are suffering and failed to get treatment due to the far distance of health facilities that lack the capacity to handle complications.

“I will put my efforts to make sure this health centre is upgraded to bring services closer to the grassroots,” he pledged.

During the visit, he donated some of mama kits like basins to mothers who had recently given birth and promised further support, including water connection, fencing of the facility, and electricity access.

He also pledged to promote education in Teso, emphasizing its role in reducing illiteracy, crime, and poverty.

He called on the community and cultural leaders to embrace unity and peace as pillars for preserving and promoting cultural heritage.

The purpose of his regional tours includes grassroots mobilization, promotion of Teso cultural heritage, public sensitization on clan administration and land dispute resolution, as well as support for education and economic development across the region.

Emorimor commended the people of Kachumbala for attending the function and for their dedication to preserving culture.

He encouraged cultural leaders to lead by example in resolving disputes with integrity, warning them against corruption.

“All, the hope is in you. You are the eyes of the culture,” he said.

He urged the community to reduce land disputes, noting that such conflicts breed disunity and hatred. Instead, he encouraged using land for food production, wealth creation, and community development.

He also emphasized the importance of reviving communal support and cultural practices that contribute to societal progress.

Highlighting the launch of the Emorimor Education Fund, he said it is aimed at tackling school dropouts and promoting education. He further encouraged the Iteso people to embrace and utilize government programs to fight poverty and called for free and fair elections in the forthcoming polls.

Her Majesty Juliet Among Emolot also addressed the gathering, urging mothers to always cook traditional foods to promote healthier families and reduce the use of oils, which she said diminish energy levels.

She called on the community to wear cultural attire and teach children about their heritage.

She announced the launch of the Akaliat Development Foundation, which will promote values such as virginity and teach young girls about culture, traditional attire, and indigenous foods annually.

Meanwhile, Iteso Prime Minister Andrew Ocole reminded cultural leaders of their duty to unify clans and avoid segregation. “Be role models in your clans. Resolve disputes and be the custodians of our culture,” he said.

The event marked a strong commitment by the Iteso leadership to health, education, culture, and unity, signaling a hopeful path forward for the region.
