Nationa Resistance Movement (NRM) National Vice Chairman for Eastern Uganda, Hon. David Calvin Echodu, has launched a major mobilization drive in the region, pledging to focus on development priorities highlighted by the cultural leadership of Teso.
Echodu began his mission on Friday with a courtesy call on His Royal Highness Papa Paul Sande Emolot, Emorimor of Teso, before convening a high-level stakeholders’ meeting at the Rock Hotel in Tororo. The visit underscored his respect for cultural institutions and their pivotal role in guiding community transformation.
During their meeting, Emorimor urged Echodu to make the welfare of the people his foremost agenda, calling for strong advocacy on four critical areas: education, health care, economic transformation, and road infrastructure.
“Our people need better schools, improved health facilities, vibrant livelihoods and accessible roads,” the Emorimor said. “As you mobilize for national development, make these priorities central to your work.”
Echodu welcomed the counsel, pledging to champion the issues with both government and party leadership.
“Our culture is the glue that holds our people together. Partnering with leaders like Emorimor ensures that political mobilization is inclusive and rooted in real needs,” Echodu told reporters after the visit.
From Emorimor’s residence, Echodu moved to the Rock Hotel, where he met an influential mix of NRM flag bearers, Members of Parliament, Local Council V chairpersons, Resident District Commissioners, youth leaders, religious figures and other opinion shapers from across Eastern Uganda.
The Tororo meeting marked the official launch of Echodu’s grassroots mobilization strategy as the newly appointed NRM vice chairman for the region. He underscored the need for unity and development as the foundation of the NRM’s legacy and future success.
“This is not just about politics, it is about ensuring that our farmers, traders, teachers and youth experience the full impact of government initiatives. Development only thrives where there is unity,” he told the gathering to sustained applause.
The session addressed key socio-economic concerns, including agricultural market access, youth employment, and regional security to attract investment. Religious and cultural leaders embraced the dialogue, pledging to carry the message of unity and development into their communities.
Analysts view this meeting as the start of a wider effort to reinvigorate party structures from the grassroots up, blending traditional authority with political organization. By engaging cultural leaders and local influencers early, Echodu is expected to strengthen NRM’s base ahead of future electoral contests.
Echodu’s Tororo engagements, guided by the Emorimor’s call for education, health, economic transformation and better roads, signal a proactive chapter for the ruling party in Eastern Uganda. Follow-up consultations at district level are planned to maintain momentum and translate the priorities identified into actionable programs.
With his dual emphasis on people-centred development and cultural respect, Echodu is positioning the NRM to sustain strong support while directly addressing the core needs of Eastern Ugandans.
