His Highness Papa Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot has addressed a large gathering of youth at Soroti Senior Secondary School, encouraging them to embrace entrepreneurship as a means of transforming the regional economy.
The Iteso Paramount Chief emphasized the urgent need for young people in the Teso region to shift their mindset from seeking employment to creating innovative solutions and business opportunities.
Emorimor highlighted the ongoing issue of unemployment in the area, urging the youth to adopt a proactive approach in closing the current employment gap.
He shared his personal journey, recounting how he began by selling groundnuts on the streets of Tororo over thirty years ago, to inspire the audience with the message that small beginnings can lead to significant accomplishments.
“Focus on cash businesses if you want to grow financially; build your ideas and start small,” he advised.
This practical approach was further illustrated by the success story of Ijala Joseph, a model farmer from Serere district, who started his venture by rearing just two chickens and has since expanded to employ over twenty people within his community.
Emorimor urged the youth to abandon laziness and the pursuit of a luxurious lifestyle, emphasizing that they possess the potential to effect profound changes within their communities.
He encouraged individuals to engage in short-term crop farming as a stepping stone to greater economic involvement.
Moreover, he called on the local business community to foster teamwork and support emerging entrepreneurs through networking.
His remarks included a commitment from the Iteso Cultural Union to construct a palace, inviting youth participation in resource mobilization efforts to benefit the region.
Through this inspiring lecture, Emorimor reinforced the idea that entrepreneurship is not only a viable path to personal financial success but also a crucial component in driving community development and economic resilience in the Teso region.
