Teso: His Highness Papa Emorimor Paul Sande Employ Etomeileng, the paramount chief of Iteso cultural Union has condemned the action of Gen. Peter Elwelu, who recently destroyed some of the cultural sites in Katakwi District.
Speaking during on Saturday after the ICU council meeting held at the cultural office, Emorimor described the actions of Lt. Gen Elwelu as a direct attack on the Iteso people’s heritage and tradition.
According to Emorimor, these cultural sites have been critical to the Iteso community for over a thousand years, serving as places where youth undergo initiation into adulthood a practice that is central to the Iteso way of life.
Elwelu destroyed the cultural sites on claims that they are demonic as he had been envisioned by his prophesy”.
“Elwelu is being very demonic and uncultured. I wonder why his so called spirits are waiting war with Iteso, why does he destroy our cultural sites when he has a shrine at his home? “ the chief said.
Emorimor questioned the validity of the claims made by Lt. Gen. Elwelu regarding the cultural sites.
“How many churches and Bishops exist in Ugganda, and since when has any of them prophesied that this cultural sites have brought disaster upon us? He asked, refuting the religious claims put forward by the general.
He further said that the cultural union will undertake legal suit against the general and consultations with their legal personnel have already began.
