    In a candid interview with Hon. Esenu, the Member of Parliament representing Kapelebyong County/District, a plethora of insights emerged regarding his background, achievements, and plans for the future. Here’s a breakdown of the key points discussed:

    1. Early Life and Education

    Hon. Esenu was born in Adeta village, Aminito parish, then Acowa Sub County but now Akoromit sub-county, Kapelebyong District. At 57 years old, he has traversed various educational institutions, including Moroto Municipal P.S., KDA P.S., Kasimeri P.S., Apostles of Jesus – Nadiket, Acumet P.S., Amuria SS, Teso College Aloet, Tororo College, and Namilyango College. He further pursued higher education at Makerere University Kampala-Uganda, and post graduates at CORAT Africa Nairobi-Kenya, and Feldafing Institute Munich-Germany.

    2. Path to Parliament

    Hon. Esenu entered Parliament with 9566 votes, securing 36% of the votes from five competitors. His victory was resounding, with a margin of over 3,000 votes against his closest rival. Prior to joining politics, Hon Esenu worked in various organizations which prepared him for political activity and national leadership. Since graduating, Hon Esenu worked as: Deputy Program Leader with Agric Extension Program of Moroto Diocese; National Agric Training & Development Coordinator with World Vision Uganda, an international NGO; Deputy Program Director with World Learning Inc., another international NGO, National M&E Officer/Coordinator of SPC with NURP/OPM, a joint World Bank/GOU funded northern Uganda rehabilitation programme; Regional Programme Officer in charge of coordinating a Great Lakes Program, M&E & Gender. He then co-founded Pilgrim and was its pioneer Country MD/Director. It is from Pilgrim that Hon Esenu decided to join politics.

    3. Notable Accomplishments

    During his tenure, Hon. Esenu has spearheaded several initiatives, including:

    – COVID-19 Response: Procurement and distribution of PPE equipment and relief food for COVID patients and their families.

    – Rural Electrification: Advocacy for electrical pole installation and connection, with plans to provide 1,100 private connections to cover various facilities and households.

    – Security Against Cattle Rustling: Motion in Parliament for a comprehensive solution, resulting in government commitments such as UPDF deployment and construction of a military barracks.

    PDM Funds: Lobbying for an increase in funds and ensuring accountability and oversight in their utilization.

    – Infrastructure Development: Advocacy for road maintenance, equipment procurement, and improvement of security roads.

    – Health Facilities: Securing allocation and funding for the upgrade and construction of health facilities.

    4. Future Plans

    Hon. Esenu vows to continue his efforts in various areas, including road maintenance, equipment procurement, PDM fund utilization, electricity connection, and health facility development.

    5. Re-election Aspirations

    With determination, Hon. Esenu affirms his intention to seek re-election in 2026, committed to serving his constituents further.
