Martin Onguruco the former aspirant for Serere County Member of Parliament in the previous 2021 general elections and 2023 Bye – elections has been called on by a section of voters to pull back for the LCV seat in the 2026 coming elections.
Onguruco, who came third in the 2021 general elections after garnering 10,513 votes had earlier promised to improve the road network in Serere.
A section of local leaders have backed him with a reason that Onguruco will be the perfect replacement for the incumbent LCV Chairman Stephen Ochola who according to them has picked interest to vie for parliamentary seat.
Amos Ochola the LC lll chairman for Kateta Sub – county said that he admires Onguruco’s leadership and will want him to vie for LC.V Chairman under the NRM ticket.
“Ongurucho is a very experienced person and has stood with the people of Serere for a very long time, the best position for him currently could be the LC.V chairperson.” he said.
John Esadu the LC lll Chairman Kyere Sub – county also cherishes Onguruco for his closeness with the local people.
“Mr. Onguruco is an articulate leader whose call for change is endless, there is no doubt that he will serve, as chairpersons of Serere, we are backing him for the LC.V seat come 2026.”
Joseph Opit Okojo the former LC.V Chairman for Serere district has also tipped Onguruco to offer himself to serve Serere in the LC.V office.
When approached for his comment by this website ,Eng. Onguruco said that he had no such intentions and had never thought of it.
“I have never uttered such a statement disclosing my next move for Serere, however I and my wife have been receiving endless calls to contest as the LC.V Chairman.”
Adding, “As a law abiding citizen i will leave it to the electorates, my working team and my party of NRM to decide.”
“Serere County had been having a problem of very poor roads, and such a problem had affected people’s movements and accessibility to the market by especially the peasant farmers; access to social services like health care, security, and education due to poor roads,” he said. He says that some of the access roads he worked on were waterlogged, submerged, and cut off or nonexistent.
Born in 1976 from Kyere Sub – County in Serere District, Eng. Onguruco attended his advanced level at Nabmali High School and Ordinary Level at Kololo S.S.
He holds a master’s degree in public infrastructure management from Makerere University, a bachelor’s degree in Civil and building Engineering from Kyambogo University and an ordinary deploma in Civil and building Engineering from Kyambogo University.
He is a member of Uganda institute of Professional Engineers.
He has held various capacities at the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) as assistant Engineer for UNRA in Soroti and Arua and served as the road inspector for Kotido station.
Onguruco served at the higher rank of Regional Site Engineer Eastern Uganda for District Roads rehabilitation unit under Ministry of Works and Transport.
He is also the proprietor of Homeland nursery and primary school Serere, one of the best performing schools in the district.
