Flight Capt. Dr. Michael George Mukula, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Vice Chairman for the Eastern Region, has officially declared his full support for Vice President Jessica Rose Alupo Epel in the Katakwi Woman MP seat come 2026 general elections.
This announcement was made during the funeral service of former Inspector General of Police, John Cossy Idomel, in Pallisa, where Mukula and Alupo, two prominent leaders in the region, met along with Iteso Paramount Chief Emorimor Paul Sande Etomeileng Emolot.
Mukula’s declaration marks a significant turn in their long-standing rivalry, which has been public since the Soroti City East by-elections in 2022.
Mukula had accused Alupo of collaborating with the opposition candidate Moses Attan Okia of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), which led to escalating tensions between the two.
The tension between Mukula and Emorimor also surfaced after the 2024 Ateker Re-Union Festival, where Mukula allegedly received UGX 120 million from the Iteso Cultural Union to beautify Soroti City. However, Mukula claimed the improvements were his personal initiative, leading to a public dispute with the Emorimor, who criticized Mukula’s actions.
During his speech at the funeral, Mukula called for peace and unity, expressing his decision to support Vice President Alupo and other high Profile members of government as a step toward reconciliation.
He stressed the importance of setting aside personal differences for the benefit of the people of Teso, stating, “I plead that we let the past go and focus on what we can do for our people.”
Emorimor welcomed Mukula’s gesture, emphasizing that unity among leaders is crucial for the progress of the region.
Mukula also announced his intention to seek re-election as NRM National Vice Chairperson for the Eastern Region, while his son, Rodney Mukula, has also declared his candidacy for Member of Parliament for Soroti City East Division.
