The Flying Squad Unit of Police has successfully apprehended Ashraf Kiiza, the prime suspect involved in the recent shocking robbery that shook the Natete Kutano community. The incident gained widespread attention after a video capturing the harrowing ordeal went viral on social media platforms.
Mr. Kiiza had been on the run since the evening of May 13, 2024, following his attempted robbery of businessman Sam Turyamuhaki at Bashir Grain Millers in Natete Kutano. Armed with a panga and hammer, Kiiza violently demanded money from Turyamuhaki, resulting in a physical assault that left the businessman injured. Turyamuhaki is presently receiving medical treatment for his injuries.
Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police, Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed that Ashraf Kiiza was located and apprehended in Kyotera on May 15. Following his arrest, Kiiza is currently detained at Nateete Police Station pending further legal proceedings.
“Further investigations are ongoing, and he will be prosecuted accordingly in the courts of law,” stated Owoyesigyire in a press release issued on Thursday.
The swift action by the Flying Squad Unit in tracking down and apprehending the suspect has been lauded by members of the community, who have expressed relief and gratitude for the diligent efforts of law enforcement in ensuring justice is served.
