In a highly competitive race that saw four candidates vying for the NRM chairperson seat in Kumi district, Hon. Hellen Christine Amongin Aporu has emerged victorious. Aporu, a board member and seasoned politician, garnered 507 votes, leaving her closest rival, Ojangole Emmanuel, far behind with 110 votes. Ouka John Bosco secured 20 votes, while Akorikin Martin garnered 9 votes.
Upon her declaration as the winner, Aporu expressed her gratitude and determination, saying, “We are going to work tirelessly to ensure that we raise the percentage of the presidential vote in Kumi district to 90% and above. We will leave no stone unturned in mobilizing our people to support the party.”
Aporu also highlighted her plans for the district, stating, “One of my top priorities will be to lobby for a district NRM office. Currently, we are renting a facility, and the funds spent on rent could be better utilized for developmental activities. We will also work to influence the appointing authority for key positions such as RDCs and top mobilizers.”
Geresem Iriot, a delegate, expressed his excitement about Aporu’s return to active politics, saying, “We were lagging behind when Hon. Aporu left active politics, but now that she’s back, it’s time to gain bigger momentum. We are confident that under her leadership, we will achieve great things and take Kumi district to new heights.”
Aporu’s victory marks a new era for the NRM in Kumi district, and her leadership is expected to bring positive change and development to the area. As she takes office, Aporu is poised to make a lasting impact on the district’s politics and future.
