The East Kyoga Regional Command of the territorial police has apprehended four individuals in connection with the theft of 25 computers from Kagwara Seed Secondary School in Kabulabula Parish, Kabulabula Subcounty in Serere District.
The suspects were taken to custody following an intelligence-led investigation.
The theft was discovered around midday when the school’s cleaner noticed the computer laboratory door had been tampered with.
Upon inspection, it was revealed that 25 computers, consisting of CPUs and monitors, had been stolen.
Notably, the keyboards were left untouched.
Further inquiry by the police revealed that the break-in occurred on the night of Friday, December 8, 2023, only discovered six days later.
SP Oscar Gregg Ageca, the spokesperson for East Kyoga, confirmed the arrests and stated that the suspects were detained under file number CRB:752/2023.
The headteacher of the school and a cleaner who was acting as the askari at the time of the theft, were in December arrested and released over the theft.
They were granted bonds as investigations into the matter progressed.
Police did not indicate whether the two were among those arrested this week.
The investigation team continues to diligently pursue all leads related to the disappearance of the computers to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The theft of educational resources like computers not only impacts the school but also hampers the learning and development of students.
The police urge anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in the investigation process.
