The Soroti Catholic Diocese priest Rev. Fr. Michael Omaria has openly told some politicians to stop witch-hunting their opponents who emerged victorious in the last elections and rather work hard and wait for their turn.
Omaria, who doubles as the head of Soroti Catholic Diocese Integrated Development Organization (SOCADIDO), breathed hard comments to the congregation while presiding over the thanksgiving mass of the Soroti City Woman Member of Parliament held at Pioneer Primary School Soroti City, on Saturday 18th November.
In his homily, the Roman priest condemned a section of politicians who have resorted to witch-hunting others after losing elections.
He called for tolerance and reconciliation amongst the leaders rather than wasting time with fights that do not benefit electorates.
He gave an example of the Soroti City Woman Member of Parliament Joan Alobo whose opponents have continued fighting even when she is serving her electorates.
“Who are you to think that you must be the one everywhere, do you think that the Lord who chose Alobo to be in Parliament made a wrong choice?” he asked.
Adding: “Alobo must be respected and shown dignity as the legislator because God chose her through the voters.”
Joan Alobo Achom was elected in 2021 as the woman member of Parliament for Soroti City in a landslide victory on FDC ticket. She defeated opponents including the NRM’S Julian Iseet Fede and the independent candidate Caroline Akope.
However, she has faced difficult times during her time of service exhibited by the running battles with security operatives whenever she attempts to conduct her ceremonies.
One of the most recent was the controversial women’s day celebration that saw police disperse hundreds of women who rallied her for the 2023 women’s day celebration.
