In a bold step toward redefining football excellence, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has unveiled the new Uganda Premier League trophy, aptly named Margherita. More than just a silverware prize, Margherita is a symbol of national pride, ambition, and the relentless pursuit of greatness within Uganda’s top flight football league.
The trophy draws Its name and symbolic inspiration from Margherita Peak, Uganda’s highest point standing at 5.11 kilometers above sea level on the Rwenzori Mountains. This elevation is more than geographical, it’s aspirational.
FUFA has transformed this peak into a metaphor for success, with the trophy celebrating the club that climbs above all others to reach the summit of Ugandan football.
At a precisely measured 511 millimeters in height, the trophy physically mirrors Margherita Peak’s 5.11 km height, blending form and meaning with deliberate artistry. Its design encapsulates the essence of Uganda’s natural beauty, its competitive football spirit, and its cultural identity.
The structure is Inspired by a classic football, but with a twist. The spherical form is stretched vertically, symbolizing the lofty ambition of clubs seeking glory. Horizontally, it curves across a top chord, creating a crescent that resembles a young moon, symbolizing new beginnings and the ever-renewing nature of competitive sport. The surface of the trophy features hexagonal and half-pentagonal panels, a respectful nod to the timeless design of a football.
Mounted on a semi-spherical base textured with dimpled football patterns, the trophy stands tall with elegance. Two tiers form its foundation, the upper tier is engraved with the names ‘FUFA’ and ‘Uganda Premier League’, marking its official prestige, while the lower glossy black tier adds visual contrast and structural balance.
Further attention to detail is found in the vertical dimples running along the trunk of the trophy. These subtle lines connect the upper and lower parts, visually simulating the stretching of a football and enhancing the unity of the design.
Crafted from fine silver, Margherita gleams with a brilliance that reflects its significance. It is not only an artistic masterpiece but a declaration of the resilience, beauty, and ambition that defines Ugandan football.
FUFA President Moses Magogo, while unveiling the trophy, emphasized its deeper meaning: “This is not just a trophy; it is a symbol of elevation. It represents the journey every team undertakes, and the pride of standing tallest in Ugandan football.”
The new design comes as FUFA continues to professionalize and elevate the Uganda Premier League, investing in structures, talent development, and branding. With Margherita now at the summit of league honors, the race to lift it becomes more than a battle for points, it is a quest for national pride.
As the league intensifies, clubs and fans alike will look to the shining silver peak of Margherita, not just as a trophy to win, but as a story to be written, season after season, in the annals of Ugandan football.
