Gold Fund, a local non-profit organization, launched the “Empowering the Girl Child” project at Panyangara Seed Secondary School in Kotido district on October 12, 2024. This initiative promotes girls’ education, menstrual hygiene, and environmental awareness, addressing challenges like climate change and social inequality. Afeti Philly, Executive Director of Gold Fund, emphasized the importance of empowering girls for a more equitable society.
The project featured career guidance, inspiring students to pursue their dreams. Headmistress Munyes Rose Mary commended Gold Fund’s dedication, while Public Relations Officer Martin Dedeng encouraged students to remain focused on their education. Dedeng also urged boys to avoid school relationships and early marriages.
Gender Officer Nakidon Ruth led a session on menstrual hygiene, dispelling myths and promoting proper health practices. She addressed the link between teenage pregnancy and factors like parental neglect and alcoholism, highlighting the need for a supportive environment for girls.
A tree planting activity also formed part of the event, symbolizing the students’ commitment to education and environmental sustainability. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for Gold Fund’s support, with Munyes praising the initiative’s positive impact.
In Kotido, where only 6.4% of girls complete primary education, this project seeks to break barriers such as poverty, early marriage, and pregnancy. Gold Fund’s initiative empowers girls and fosters community-driven change, aiming for a brighter future.
