DOKOLO DISTRICT: The community of Awiri parish in Dokolo sub-county was left in shock on Sunday when Felix Ejom, headteacher of Dream Nursery and Primary School, was arrested by police for his alleged involvement in a security incident at the neighboring Awiri Junior Nursery and Primary School.
The arrest followed reports of an attack where stones were thrown at Awiri Junior Nursery and Primary School. Officer in Charge of Awiri Police Station, AIP Abura Margaret, confirmed the arrest and recovery of items including bricks, catapults, and stones. “With the help of the watchman, we were able to catch Mr. Ejom,” explained Ogwal, the school’s watchman.
Director of Awiri Junior Nursery and Primary School, Dickens Obote, condemned the act of stoning and vowed to pursue justice. Samuel Omiti, Chairperson of Private Schools in Dokolo District, expressed shock and disbelief at a headteacher’s involvement in such an incident, suggesting Ejom should be blacklisted from teaching.
The community is reeling from the incident, with many struggling to comprehend the involvement of a respected headteacher. According to AIP Abura, this is not the first incident of its kind, recalling a similar report from June 30, 2024, filed by Obote.
The case has been registered at Awiri Police Station under SD Ref 0/08/07/2024, and Ejom has been charged with criminal trespass, malicious damage, and threatening violence. Unconfirmed reports indicate the two suspects still at large are also employees of Dream Nursery and Primary School.
Tom Ogwal, Chairperson of the School Management Committee and a neighbor, recounted the night of the incident: “I heard loud noises from the school late at night and decided to investigate with the help of the watchman.”
The small parish remains in a state of disbelief as the investigation continues.
