In a heartfelt revelation that has captivated the public’s attention, Diana Kyaremera, the daughter of President Museveni, has confirmed the end of her nearly 18-year marriage with businessman Geoffrey Kamuntu. Despite her initial attempts to shield her private life from scrutiny, Kyaremera has bravely stepped forward to address the dissolution of her marriage, citing the welfare of her children as her primary concern.
“I have tried to keep my divorce private and out of the public sphere for the sake of my children,” Kyaremera expressed. “However, I feel the need to clarify now.”
Alongside her poignant statement, Kyaremera presented the “Decree Nisi,” officially marking the legal termination of her marriage, issued in 2022. “Divorce is a very difficult thing, especially when there are children involved,” she reflected, acknowledging the emotional upheaval of the process.
Amidst the challenges of separation, Kyaremera implored the public for their understanding and support during this tumultuous period. “I ask that the public continues to pray for my family as we move forward from this difficult time and that you will respect our privacy,” she humbly requested.
In 2022, Diana Kyaremera formally petitioned the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) to revert to her maiden name, “Diana Museveni Kyaremera,” relinquishing the use of her husband’s surname, “Kamuntu.”
Diana, the youngest offspring of President Museveni, assumes the role of managing director of Museveni family enterprises, overseeing all private ventures of the first family. Her marriage to Kamuntu, which commenced on July 24, 2004, resulted in the blessing of three children—two boys and one girl.
Recounting the genesis of their relationship, Diana reminisced about meeting Kamuntu at her sister Natasha Karugire’s residence, where she was immediately drawn to his tall and captivating presence. Diana has also explored her talents in acting, notably portraying the First Lady in the Ugandan film “27 Guns,” directed by her sister Natasha Karugire.
Meanwhile, Kamuntu owns a procurement firm specializing in consultancy services for oil exploration companies in the Albertine region, with purported interests in the Heritage Oil Company. As Diana Kyaremera navigates this chapter of her life, her grace and resilience continue to inspire all those touched by her story.
