Thousands of residents in Gweri County have thrown their weight behind Hon. Herbert Edmund Ariko, endorsing him as their preferred candidate for the 2026 parliamentary elections. The massive show of support came during a thanks-giving ceremony at Awaliwal Primary School, where Ariko was the guest of honor.
The event, which attracted nearly three-quarters of the Gweri population, was a testament to Ariko’s growing popularity in the county. The locals praised Ariko for his commitment to development and his willingness to listen to their concerns.
Ariko’s campaign received a significant boost when Bukoto West MP Muhammed Sentayi, Serere County MP Emmanuel Omoding Okabe, and Silas Aogon of Kumi Municipality endorsed his bid. The trio also contributed financially to support Ariko’s campaign, with each donating shs3m towards the construction of Awaliwal PS boys’ dormitory.
Ariko himself donated shs8m, while his friends from Rukiga district contributed 150 bags of cement. The donations were seen as a sign of Ariko’s commitment to improving education and infrastructure in the county.
Gweri County, which was carved out of Soroti District in 2021, is currently represented by FDC’s Tom Julius Ekudo. However, voters feel his presence is not felt, and they’re eager for change. Ariko’s campaign has tapped into this sentiment, with supporters chanting “Our son, Hon Ariko is godsend. Please lead us forever. Come 2026, all the votes will read Ariko! Ariko! Ariko!”.
As the 2026 polls approach, Ariko’s popularity and support base continue to grow, making him a strong contender for the Gweri County MP seat.
