Kotido, Uganda – In a vibrant display of patriotism and gratitude, hundreds of residents of Kotido District gathered to celebrate Tarehe Sita, the anniversary of the National Resistance Army’s (NRA) launch of the liberation struggle that brought an end to tyranny and ushered in a new era of peace and stability in Uganda. The event, held at the Lomukura Boma Grounds , was attended by various dignitaries, including the Mayor of Kotido Irar Peter Abraham, the Commander of 43 Brigade Lt Col Emmy Kafureka Nuwagira, and the Guest of Honour, Kotido Resident District Commisioner(RDC) Charles Ichogor.
During the celebrations Irar Peter Abrams the Mayor Kotido Municipality praised the UPDF for their tireless efforts in bringing peace to Karamoja. “We are grateful for the sacrifices made by our soldiers in ensuring that our region is stable and secure,” he said.
The Mayor emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among the people of Karamoja. “We must work together to build a brighter future for ourselves and our children,” he said.
The Mayor also highlighted the various development projects that have been implemented in Kotido, thanks to the peace and stability brought by the UPDF. “We have seen significant improvements in our infrastructure, healthcare, and education sectors,” he said.
Commander of 43 Brigade Kafureeka’s Speech
The Commander of 43 Brigade Lt Col Emmy Kafureeka Nuwagira praised the UPDF for their role in pacifying Karamoja. “We are proud of our soldiers who have worked tirelessly to bring peace to this region,” he said.
The Commander highlighted the importance of community engagement and outreach. “We must work closely with the local community to ensure that our efforts are effective and sustainable,” he said.
The Commander emphasized that the UPDF is committed to protecting the people of Karamoja and ensuring their safety and security. “We will continue to work tirelessly to prevent crime and maintain law and order in the region,” he said.
The Lt Col Kafureka also thanked the people of Karamoja for their cooperation and support. “We appreciate the trust and confidence you have placed in us, and we pledge to continue serving you with dedication and professionalism,” he said.
He appealed to the Karachuna to return guns following the still ongoing amnesty and embrace education.

Guest of Honour, RDC Ichogor’s Speech
The Guest of Honour, RDC Charlea Ichogor, praised the UPDF for their role in bringing peace to Karamoja. “We are grateful for the sacrifices made by our soldiers in ensuring that our region is stable and secure,” he said.
RDC Ichogor emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among the people of Karamoja. “We must work together to build a brighter future for ourselves and our children,” he said.
RDC Ichogor highlighted the various development projects that have been implemented in Karamoja, thanks to the peace and stability brought by the UPDF. “We have seen significant improvements in our infrastructure, healthcare, and education sectors,” he said.
RDC Ichogor also emphasized the need for the people of Karamoja to take ownership of the peace and stability in the region. “We must work together to ensure that our region remains peaceful and stable, and that we continue to make progress in our development efforts,” he said.
Furthermore, RDC Ichogor stressed the importance of the four pillars of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), which include:
Patriotism: loving Uganda and putting its interests above individual or sectarian interests
Pan-Africanism: promoting African unity and solidarity
Socio-economic Transformation: transforming Uganda’s economy and society to improve the lives of its citizens
Democracy: promoting democratic principles and practices
RDC Ichogor noted that these pillars are crucial in promoting prosperity and development in Uganda. He emphasized that by embracing these principles, Ugandans can work together to build a brighter future for themselves and their children.
He urged parents to embrace education since there is peace.
