In a stance against corruption, Gen. Peter Elwelu, recently appointed as Senior Presidential Advisor (SPA) for Teso and Karamoja regions, has warned corrupt officials to resign before he takes action. Addressing the pervasive corruption in Uganda, Gen. Elwelu expressed his frustration, specifically targeting chaos and district officials who misuse public funds by releasing money to contractors at the end of the financial year.
“I will strangle you, resign before I come,” Gen. Elwelu stated emphatically during an interview on a sister channel, Michael’s Desk. https://youtu.be/cx0aOyE6vFs?si=m38AKgd0-pUQO2i6 .He pledged to investigate and dismantle the corruption syndicate deeply entrenched within the region.
When asked about the possibility of facing sanctions for his stern approach of operation, Gen. Elwelu remained unfazed. “I am not moved by sanctions; I will continue doing my work for the good of my country,” he affirmed, demonstrating his commitment to combating corruption.
Gen. Elwelu attributed the rise of corruption to the breakdown of the family tree and the erosion of respect. “The start of corruption is the family tree which has been broken, and there is no more respect,” he said, highlighting the cultural and social factors contributing to the issue.
As Uganda continues to grapple with corruption, Gen. Elwelu’s appointment and his strong message proves the government’s commitment to tackling the problem. His proactive stance aims to restore integrity and accountability in Teso and Karamoja, setting a precedent for other regions to follow.
