The Lira Cultural Foundation has issued a plea to the government and well-wishers to contribute towards raising approximately Shs. 2.8 billion for the upcoming coronation of Eng Dr. Micheal Moses Odongo Okune as the new paramount chief of the Lango chiefdom.
Scheduled for November 2nd, 2024, the coronation marks the transition from the reign of Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii to Eng Odongo’s leadership.
A breakdown of the estimated budget reveals that the funds will cover various activities, including guest welfare, refreshments, research documentation, and the publication of cultural materials. Notably, Shs. 425 million is earmarked for welfare and refreshment, while Shs. 53 million is allocated for research documentation and publication.
Heading the planning and execution efforts is a steering committee chaired by Mr. Denis Hanson Obua, the government chief whip. Comprising 15 sub-committees overseeing aspects such as security, finance, and welfare, the committee aims to ensure a seamless coronation process.
Ms. Judith Alyek, Chairperson of the Lango Parliamentary Group, has pledged to rally members of Parliament in support of the coronation festivities.
As preparations intensify, the Lira Cultural Foundation hopes for widespread support to make Eng Dr. Micheal Moses Odongo Okune’s coronation a memorable and culturally significant event.
