Kaabong, Uganda-A swift and decisive response by joint security forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) has resulted in the recovery of 30 head of cattle raided by suspected Turkana/Matheniko warriors in Kaabong district.
The incident occurred in the early hours of January 17, 2025, when a group of approximately 20 armed warriors attacked Lodiko community kraal, headed by Nyanga Joseph Apacuba, in Kajir village, Lodiko sub-county.
According to eyewitnesses, the warriors, who were armed with rifles and machetes, stormed the kraal and made off with the cattle. However, the joint security forces responded promptly, engaging the warriors in a gunfight that lasted over 20 minutes.
The security forces successfully recovered all 30 head of cattle from Lopedo airfield, a crossing point to Kenya. The cattle were returned to their rightful owners, and the community has been assured of their safety and security.
The incident highlights the ongoing efforts of the security forces to combat stock theft and ensure the safety and security of communities in the Karamoja region. The joint security forces have been working tirelessly to protect the communities and their livestock from external aggressors.

The security forces have assured the public of their protection from these external aggressors and have commended their personnel deployed in the area for their good work.
