President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni the President of the Republic of Uganda has said the Judicial Commission of inquiry is the best solution for dealing with Apaa land Conflict between Amuru and Adjumani districts.
President Yoweri Museveni made the remarks on Friday 11th August 2023 in Statehouse Entebbe during the swearing in Ceremony of members of the Judicial Commission of inquiry who were appointed on 3rd April 2023.
The Districts of Adjumani and Amuru have been in a long span of conflict Over Apaa land. Many attempts have previously been made by both government and the local or cultural leaders of the two communities to try and resolve the impulse. However, many of such previous attempts have not yielded fruits.
The conflict for sometime now has costed many people lives and property arising from reprisal attacks on both communities.
“The best medicine for Apaa Land dispute is a commission of inquiry. Why? Because, in all our other efforts, people play with us. The Commission has powers of court” President Museveni said.
President Museveni noted that when the commission summons a person, they Must respond positively or face consequences.
The members sworn in are the former Chief Justice, Bart Katureebe as the commission Chairperson, Hon Justice Alice Mpagi Bahigaine, Hon Justice Steven George Engwau, Ms Joyce Gunze Habaasa and Dr Fred Henry Bateganya. Others appointed to the commission is lead Counsel George Omunyokol and Imelda Adongo as the commission Secretary.
The Commission is expected to commence the work immediately.
