Heads of state from across the African continent are expected to travel to Soroti City, Uganda, to participate in the Ateker Re-Union Festival, scheduled for November 27th-29th, as confirmed by Vice President Jessica Rose Alupo.
Vice President Alupo, who is leading the organization, explained that the festival, titled “To Bong Lore,” aims to bring together Ateso-speaking people from Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, and other parts of the world for the first time since their separation 280 years ago.
With the theme “Celebrating Shared Heritage, Forging a Path towards Peace and Economic Empathy,” the festival is a testament to Pan-Africanism. Activities are set to run from November 27th to 29th.
Alupo also confirmed that the head of state has allocated 3.2 billion shillings for the event.
The festival seeks to unlock opportunities in international relations, business, cultural preservation, and more.
Addressing the press at Soroti University on Saturday afternoon, Alupo called on the Iteso to showcase their cultural pride and unity throughout the festival.
