Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola has officially been declared the Member of Parliament-elect for Kawempe North, following the publication of his victory in the Uganda Gazette on March 24, 2025.
This marks the conclusion of the by-election process and resolves a period of uncertainty within the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) camp.
Nalukoola won with 17,939 votes, defeating Faridah Nambi of the National Resistance Movement, who garnered 9,058 votes.
The gazetting of Nalukoola’s victory allows for his formal swearing-in and entry into Parliament.
His win comes amid earlier concerns of interference by UPDF soldiers and a delayed publication by the Uganda Printing and Publishing Corporation (UPPC).
However, after consultations with the Electoral Commission, the publication of his victory has been confirmed, officially ending the electoral process.
Justice Simon Byabakama, chairman of the Electoral Commission, has now declared the electoral process for Kawempe North complete, clearing the path for Nalukoola’s formal induction into Parliament.
