The woman Member of Parliament for Soroti City, Joan Alobo Achom, has been hospitalized, according to sources close to the politician.
The reasons for her hospitalization were not immediately disclosed, but concerns have been raised following her absence during the priestly pass out by the Soroti Catholic Diocese on Saturday.
The ceremony attended by the Vice President H.E Rd. Maj. Jessica Rose Alupo and the Speaker Anita Among, among the top guests saw the area woman member of parliament absent, yet she has been notably supporting and attending such religious activities in her constituency, hence raising concerns from her supporters.
Her closed member of the family told this publication that the politician fell critically ill and collapsed on Friday night where she was rushed to one of the hospitals in Kampala not disclosed following the family’s interest.
The Legislator is currently battling illness alongside her biological father who is as well undergoing a tough surgery, said the husband Mr. Stephen Olukor on a phone call interviews.
“The MP traveled to Soroti on Wednesday evening to attend the funeral of her late friend Mr. James Okwere that took place in Kanyumu, Kumi district. While on her way back to Kampala on Friday for duty, she suddenly fell ill and lost her consciousness”, he said.
“she is currently in stable condition following attention by the medical professionals in Kampala, I am pretty sure that she will be discharged soon”, he added.
The FDC’s Iron Lady is currently among the most outstanding legislators in both parliament and her constituency of Soroti city.
Alobo’s leadership came to the limelight having been on the forefront in fighting corruption, championing the women’s rights nationally and opposing the bad governance, she has twice scooped the awards for the best performer in the East African Parliamentary games while representing the Uganda Parliament.
By polls, she is among those members of parliament in Teso Sub- region expected to have smooth return to parliament in the coming 2026 elections with sliding victory.
