KAABONG, UGANDA – In a move aimed at stamping out corruption and ensuring accountability in public service delivery, Kaabong District Engineer, Ongom Franco, has been arrested for allegedly supervising shoddy works.
The arrest was made during a monitoring exercise and meeting conducted by Maj. Martha Asiimwe, Head of the RDC Secretariat/Anti-Corruption Unit at the Office of the President, and Bamwine Fred, Commissioner in charge of the Karamoja region, at Kaabong District headquarters.
The exercise aimed to assess service delivery in the district and identify areas of improvement. However, the team was shocked to discover that several projects, including road construction and building works, were of poor quality.
Maj. Asiimwe expressed concern over the findings, emphasizing that the government would not tolerate any form of corruption or mismanagement of public resources. “We will not hesitate to take action against anyone found to be involved in corrupt practices or supervising shoddy works,” she said.
Bamwine Fred reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in public service delivery. “We will continue to monitor and evaluate the performance of district officials to ensure that they are delivering services effectively and efficiently,” he said.
The arrest of Ongom Franco is part of the government’s broader efforts to combat corruption and promote good governance at all levels. It demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring that public funds are utilized effectively and efficiently, and that services are delivered transparently and accountably.

Kidepo Regional Police Commander, Senior Superintendent of Police Geoffrey Aciria confirmed they had Mr Ongom in custody.
