Kaberamaido District has registered 1,831 pupils for the 2024 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), according to the District Education Officer, Mr. Richard Elyebu. This year’s registration reflects a slight drop of 50 candidates compared to last year, when the district registered 1,881 pupils. Elyebu attributed the decline to the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in extended school closures during the 2021-2022 period. He noted that students only returned to full-time learning last year when they sat for their PLE.
In last year’s results, Kaberamaido District recorded the following outcomes: 48 students achieved Division 1, 980 in Division 2, 670 in Division 3, 336 in Division 4, while 219 students were ungraded (Division U), and 6 did not sit the exams. Elyebu stated that the district saw a 2.65% decline in performance compared to the previous year.
This year, the number of male candidates exceeds females, with 978 boys and 883 girls registered for the exams. Elyebu expressed confidence that the candidates have been well-prepared by their teachers, who have guided them through the curriculum. He also acknowledged the critical role played by parents, local leaders, and other stakeholders in supporting the learners throughout their education journey.
Ms. Damali Ajibo, the Secretary for Health and Education in Kaberamaido District Local Government, urged parents to continue supporting their children by ensuring they attend all examination sessions without disruption. She also called on school administrations to provide the necessary materials for the exams, while parents should ensure their children have essential supplies such as meals, pens, pencils, and mathematical sets.
Both Elyebu and Ajibo commended the collective efforts of teachers, school inspectors, administrators, local leaders, and community members in supporting the learners and urged continued cooperation to ensure a successful examination process.
