The Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Oliach, Bishop of Soroti Diocese, has called upon Christians to hold prayer services during funerals, emphasizing the importance of seeking God’s forgiveness and mercy for the deceased. Bishop Oliach made these remarks during a memorial service for the late Imata Abeso Felista, Martin Ojuko Ebayu, Dr. John Bosco Egatu, Alapo Cecilia, and Imata Amucu, held in Ogodai village, Ablotok parish, Kobulubulu sub-county, Kaberamaido district.
The Bishop encouraged Christians to invite prayers and seek God’s forgiveness during funerals, citing John 11:25, “I am the resurrection and the life, whoever believes in me, though he dies, yet shall he live.” He also advised that funeral services should conclude by 6:00 pm, with only family members and close relatives remaining. Additionally, he emphasized that no alcohol should be consumed or sold at the venue.
Bishop Oliach praised the late Imata Abeso Felista for raising her children well, alongside her late husband Alfonse Ejoru. He noted that her dedication to her family has borne fruit, as evident in the many doctors and professionals among her children and grandchildren.
Dr. Charles Engoru, son of the late Imata Abeso Felista, expressed gratitude to Bishop Oliach for presiding over the memorial service. He also thanked the priests, religious leaders, friends, in-laws, relatives, and all who attended the function. Dr. Engoru emphasized the importance of education, advising parents to prioritize educating their children, as it is a gift that can never be taken away.
The memorial service was a testament to the family’s strong Christian faith and their commitment to honoring their loved ones.
