The Kaberamaido District Council convened a special sitting at the district council hall to pay their final respects to the late Hon. Acan Santa Sherly, a dedicated public servant and district councilor representing persons with disabilities (PwDs). Presided over by the District Speaker, Hon. James Kennedy Eisu, the session honored her exemplary service, dedication, and profound impact on the council and community.
Hon.Eisu praised the late Hon. Acan Santa Sherly as a hardworking, social, and cooperative leader whose passing has left a deep void in the council. He called on fellow councilors to emulate her legacy, noting that she had been serving her second term in office after being re-elected due to her unwavering commitment to the welfare of PwDs and the development of Kaberamaido District. He remarked, “Her death marks the loss of another valuable councilor, following the earlier passing of a representative from Oriamo Sub-county.”
The motion for a resolution of condolence was moved by Hon. Ajibo Damali, Secretary for Health and Education, who highlighted Hon. Sherly’s service since 2016. She served on the finance and administration committee, where her dedication and integrity were evident. Hon. Damali described the late councilor as a leader who tirelessly promoted the welfare and development of the district, earning admiration and respect from colleagues and the community alike.
Hon. Wabule Betty, the Vice Chairperson of Kaberamaido District Local Government, represented the District Chairman, who was out of the district. She commended Hon. Sherly for her collaborative efforts with her male counterpart representing PwDs to serve their electorate effectively. Hon. Wabule described her as approachable, polite, and a person of integrity, whose work left an indelible mark on the district.
Hon. Oboi Fredrick, Councilor for Okile Sub-county, remembered Hon. Sherly as a strong mobilizer, a prayer warrior, and a staunch advocate for peace and cooperation among her peers. “Even in childhood, she exemplified faith and resilience, and I am confident she is now with the Lord,” he remarked.
Assistant Resident District Commissioner Peter Ariko, representing the office of the Senior RDC, praised the late councilor’s legacy, noting her unwavering commitment to the people of Kaberamaido District.
Hon. Acan Santa Sherly passed away at Lira Regional Referral Hospital. Her demise has deeply affected the council and the community she served. The councilors and community members expressed their condolences to her family and celebrated her life and service with a resolution of condolence and prayers.
Her exemplary leadership and tireless advocacy for the rights and welfare of PwDs will remain a source of inspiration for leaders and residents of Kaberamaido District.
