The Kaberamaido District leadership has officially handed over 2,009 acres of land to the Kumam Cultural Heritage institution. This decision follows a letter dated May 7, 2024, and a council sitting on May 30, 2023, under minute 11/COU/30/05/2023. The land is located 800 meters from Kaberamaido District Headquarters along Lwala, Kaberamaido Road, adjacent to the former Civil Service Test House. Kumam Cultural Heritage will use this land to establish their offices.
District Chairperson Mr. Victor Rex Ekesu praised the Kumam leaders for their perseverance and highlighted the significance of this achievement, particularly following the election of Won Ateker Papa Kumam as the cultural leader. He also credited President Museveni for his support, including a financial provision of 60 million shillings for the cultural institution starting this financial year.
District Speaker Mr. James Kennedy Eisu emphasized the transformative potential of cultural leaders in mobilizing communities to participate in government programs like PDM, YLP, UWEP, and Emyooga. He thanked journalists for their efforts in promoting the cultural institution.
Deputy Minister for Land in Kumam Cultural Heritage, Mr. Erochu Yuventian, expressed gratitude to the district leadership and mentioned that the institution has long awaited this moment. The process of acquiring a land title will begin within a week, and the site will be used for constructing the offices of Won Ateker and other ministers.
Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Henry Damba explained that transferring government property involves thorough documentation and consultation with the central government, which is why the handover took time. He assured that the district would assist Kumam Cultural Heritage in obtaining the land title.
Resident District Commissioner Mr. Lino Lotem warned against disunity, stating that it hinders development and that any attempts to divide the institution would not be tolerated by the office of the president.
