Kaberamaido District Local Government has officially handed over a road rehabilitation project to Karobwe Engineering contractors, marking a significant milestone in the district’s infrastructure development. The project, valued at UGX 1.332 billion, aims to rehabilitate an 11.7 km road stretching from Awelu, Awimon to Akampala in Ochero sub-county ¹.
The road is part of the National Oilseeds project (NOSP), a government initiative promoting oilseed production and trade in the country. The project’s completion is expected to significantly improve access to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities.
The handover ceremony was attended by district leaders, including Area MP of Ochero Emigu Julius Peter. According to Chief Administrative Officer Henry Damba, the project is anticipated to boost agricultural production and trade in the region, aligning with the objectives of the National Oilseeds project.
District Chairperson Victor Rexs Ekesu applauded the government of Uganda, through President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, for the project. He noted that the project will improve infrastructure development in Ochero and Kaberamaido as a whole.
Ekesu also requested members of the community to take ownership of the project by monitoring the progress of the workers and holding their leaders accountable for any issues that may arise.
Resident District Commissioner Lotem Linos cautioned the contractor against doing substandard work, warning that failure to meet expectations would result in blacklisting from Kaberamaido and denial of future contracts. Linos also encouraged community members to participate in supervising the road workers.
