In a shocking turn of events, the LC3 chairperson of Alwa sub-county, Mr. Odongo John Ekongolat, and the sub-county chief, Mr. Eripu Emmanuel, have been remanded to Kaberamaido Government Prison over allegations of stealing a tricycle meant to aid farmers in transporting their produce.
The duo appeared before Chief Magistrate Her Worship Patricia Ndagire, who denied them bail. They were charged with theft and stealing a vehicle under CRB 040/1/2025. Both officials denied the charges.
According to the allegations, Odongo broke into the Alwa sub-county stores, utilizing his authority to steal the tricycle, which he later sold to a scrap dealer in Dokolo District. The incident occurred on January 11, 2025, during the daytime. Interestingly, Odongo reported the case at Alwa Police Station, only to later become the prime suspect.
The officials will reappear in court on February 19, 2025, for the mention of their case. This development raises concerns about corruption and accountability within local government offices in Kaberamaido District.
