Mr. Erayu Gerald Uche, a laboratory technician at Kaberamaido Hospital, was arrested on charges of using forged academic papers to secure his position. Appointed on February 11, 2022, Erayu’s arrest follows a letter from a whistleblower dated February 2, 2024, prompting an investigation by the Inspectorate of Government.
Discrepancies in Erayu’s documents include conflicting names, mismatched registration numbers, and unauthorized signatures. Further investigation revealed that his registration numbers belong to other professionals, casting doubt on the authenticity of his qualifications. The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) of Kaberamaido, Lotem Lions Tumkori, directed the immediate handover of Erayu to the police and demanded the refund of all salaries and benefits received.
The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Kaberamaido District issued an interdiction letter, citing independent verification that confirmed Erayu’s forged documents. Erayu was interdicted with immediate effect, receiving half pay and being barred from leaving the country or accessing the health facility. He was given fourteen days to respond to the allegations.
SP David Otabong, the District Police Commander, confirmed Erayu’s arrest and stated that he is in custody, awaiting the Registrar of the Allied Health Professionals Council to defend the council’s position. Erayu has been charged with forgery under General Enquiry File GEF 07/2024.
