Kaberamaido | The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) successfully held its grassroots elections for sub-county and town council chairpersons across Kaberamaido District on Friday, as part of a nationwide exercise. The elections, which covered all 7 sub-counties and 2 town councils in the district, were conducted peacefully and orderly.
According to the NRM District Registrar for Kaberamaido, Ojade Isaac, the process went smoothly with only a few minor concerns raised by some of the losing candidates, which he attributed to the normal dynamics of any election. The polls were conducted using the lining-up method, where party members physically lined up behind their preferred candidates.
In Kobulubulu Sub-county, Esimu Bendard emerged victorious with 58 supporters, defeating his former boss, challenger Bazil Atidi, who secured 28 votes. The other candidates, Okello Michael Joseph (popularly known as Okello Day Ga), managed fewer votes.
Following his win, Bendard Esimu expressed appreciation to the people of Kobulubulu Sub-county for their trust in his leadership. He encouraged the community to remain steadfast in their support for the NRM party and to rally behind President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as the country approaches the 2026 general elections. He observed that the voting exercise was conducted transparently, beginning with the verification of party members from all parishes. The election was reportedly free of irregularities, with no formal complaints registered.
At the end of the day, several individuals were elected to lead the NRM structures at sub-county and town council levels. Bazil Atidi then thanked the winner and promised to work together to develop the party, noting that Ochero County was full of NRM supporters, but the opposition had reduced in Kobulubulu Sub-county during his term in office.
