The Resident District Commissioner of Kaberamaido, Mr. Lions Tumkori Lotem, has successfully graduated 1,207 students from a week-long patriotism training program. The graduates hailed from 13 secondary schools and one tertiary institute in the district. The program, coordinated by Mr. Raymond Esanyu, included drills and sessions on patriotism, the history and geography of Uganda, critical thinking, and understanding the geo-political and security situation in Uganda.
The training initiative, which began in 2022, aims to instill patriotism among the youth. District Chairperson, Mr. Victor Rex Ekesu, commended both the government and the students for their dedication to the program. He highlighted the legacy of patriotism in Kaberamaido, mentioning prominent figures like the late Ekinu Robert and Denis Ecwou, who demonstrated patriotism during their lifetimes.
Ekesu also called on teachers to incorporate local context into their teaching, emphasizing that understanding one’s heritage is crucial for nurturing patriotism. Reflecting on the district’s educational growth, he noted the significant increase in secondary schools since 1980, when there was only one.
Chief Guest, RDC Tumkori, urged students to prioritize education and avoid criminal activities. He stressed that patriotism is essential for all schools in Kaberamaido District, thanking the peace and stability in Uganda that allows such programs to thrive.
