Two suspects in a high-profile case involving computer misuse and theft have been granted bail by the Kaberamaido Magistrates Court. Hilder Angako, daughter of the former Local Council Five chairperson, and her grandson, Darius Ekongu, appeared before Grade One Magistrate Jackline Kembabazi on September 10, 2024.
The suspects were each granted cash bail of UGX 200,000 and non-cash bail of UGX 2 million for their four sureties. They are expected to return to court on October 24, 2024, for further proceedings.
Angako and Ekongu are accused of taking advantage of Sandrah Iteno, who was allegedly involved in a love triangle with Mark Ejoku, son of former Kaberamaido District Chairman Albert Ejoku Osama, and Darius Ekongu. Iteno was reportedly intoxicated at a social gathering, stripped, and recorded on video. Additionally, her phone was stolen during the incident.
Although Albert Ejoku Osama is believed to be involved, he has not been apprehended, with police reports suggesting he is evading arrest. He is also accused of threatening journalists covering the case, though he was granted a police bond at the East Kyoga Police Headquarters.
District Police Commander SP David Otabong confirmed that four more suspects remain at large and could face rape charges related to the incident. The next court hearing is set for October 24, 2024, with the suspects facing a potential sentence of up to seven years in prison or a fine of 750 currency points if found guilty.
