A sanitation and water crisis is hitting Kamdini town council, Oyam district, with residents warning of a potential disease outbreak due to inadequate latrines. A public latrine serving 1,860 businesspersons has been closed, forcing residents to defecate in nearby gardens. The community relies on a single borehole for clean water, serving 2,700 residents.
Alfred Ocen Lc1 Chairman of Tenam Cell stressed the urgency of addressing the crisis.
Sam Paul Ogwang Alunyu the LC3 chairman of Kamdini Town Council assured residents that a team has been deployed to assess the situation and plans are underway to construct a public toilet. However, he said government policies have restricted borehole drilling, with only four of 24 planned boreholes completed by Jf Well Works Africa.
Oyam South MP aspirant Patrick Ogwang Obura pledged to build a public toilet and repair existing boreholes in collaboration with NGOs. The initiative aims to drill 10 new boreholes and repair over 100 across Oyam South.
Residents hope their cries for help will be heard, and urgent action will be taken to address the crisis threatening their community.
