Kotido, Uganda – In a bid to boost economic growth and improve livelihoods, Kanair Subcounty in Kotido District is set to operationalize a weekly market. This resolution was reached during the yesterday the 10th Friday 2024, Subcounty Budget Conference, where stakeholders identified the market as a key driver of economic development.
The market, constructed by the Development Initiative for Northern Uganda (DINU), will be held every Saturday, aiming to provide a platform for local farmers, traders, and artisans to sell their products. According to Kanair Subcounty Chairman, Lokurio Lokoliteba, the market will create opportunities for residents to access fresh produce, clothing, and other essential goods.
“This market will not only benefit our local traders but also attract customers from neighboring subcounties, thereby boosting our economy,” Lokoliteba said.
Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Charles Ichogor welcomed the initiative, emphasizing its potential to improve livelihoods. “The weekly market will increase economic activity, create jobs, and enhance trade in Kanair Subcounty,” Ichogor noted.
Assistant RDC Peter Lokwi Abrahams praised the subcounty leadership for their proactive approach. “This market demonstrates the commitment of Lokurio Lokoliteba and his team to drive economic growth and improve the well-being of Kanair Subcounty residents.”
The market will also provide a platform for farmers to sell their produce, reducing post-harvest losses and increasing their income. Traders and vendors have welcomed the initiative, citing improved market access and increased customer base.
“We are excited about the market and look forward to increased sales and revenue,” said one trader.
The subcounty authorities have assured traders and customers of adequate security, sanitation, and other essential amenities.
The operationalization of the weekly market is expected to commence on after their receive funds and organise a launch.

Papa RDC ichogor. appreciated the community for electing a vibrant lc3 .asking them to return him. He used the oportunity to inform the community to embrace govt programmes , PDM, YLP, UWEP, GROW to uplift their livelihoods.
The RDC with the crowd unanimously agreed saturday as the market day He urged them to receive funds and let and tell him to launch the market as soon as possible.
” you have to arrange for the day of launhing this market” he echoed’. “councillors work together as a team to achieve this goal. He also encouraged the parents to take children to school. He vowed to lead an operation to arrest all parents keeping school going children at home.
