Karenga, Uganda – Security forces have neutralized notorious most wanted Karamoja warrior commander Isaac Apalomal aka (Issa Lokuria), ending his reign of terror in the region.

Apalomal, leader of a 72-strong armed group, had been wreaking havoc in Karamoja, notorious for cattle rustling, violence, and poaching in Kidepo Valley National Park.

His crimes had left communities in fear, displaced many, and threatened the region’s fragile peace.

On September 25, 2024, at 4:00 p.m., UPDF’s 47 Battalion, in collaboration with police, launched an operation in Lokodope Village, Kawalakol Subcounty, Karenga District. The joint forces engaged Apalomal’s group in a shootout after they were found drinking in the village.

Apalomal was killed in the exchange, along with another warrior Lemukol Lopringole. one other was captured alive.

Security forces also recovered gun SMG H9211 with 27 rounds of ammunition.

Major Isaac Oware, the Public Information Officer for the 3rd Division of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), confirmed the incident, stressing the importance of such coordinated actions in restoring peace to the troubled Karamoja region.

The two neutralized warriors had long been notorious for their involvement in terrorizing local populations across several sub-counties, including Kathile, Lolelia, Sangar, Karenga, Morungole, and Kawalakol.

Apalomal’s group had brought immense suffering. “We commend security forces for their bravery.” He added

This operation demonstrates Government security forces commitment to peace and stability in Karamoja.

Police and UPDF are investigating Apalomal’s network and planning further operations to dismantle remaining criminal elements.

Commenting on the development, Kidepo Regional Police Commander SSP Aciria Godfrey warned, “Security personnel in the Kidepo region have been put on high alert due to intelligence reports indicating a possible revenge attack by Isaac’s group on security installations. We urge residents and visitors to remain cautious and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.”

The situation is being closely monitored, and security measures will be adjusted accordingly.
