Otuko was rushed to Katakwi General Hospital where he was later referred to Soroti Regional Hospital, Unfortunately he passed away before setting off to Soroti.

The police of Katakwi District are seriously hunting for suspects  who murdered by assault a one  James Otuko whom was mistakenly killed as a thief.

Oscar Gregory Ageca the East Kyoga Spokesperson informed this website that the suspects have already been identified as one Okure, resident of  Okokomoi village, another identified as Gedion, a resident of Okokomai Village and others still at large, both resident within Katakwi District.

From Police statement, it’s alleged that on 16th August 2023, around 07:00AM in Apulenyu Village, Omodoi Sub county, within  Katakwi District Mr Otuko James a former LC 1 was brutally beaten for looking suspicious as he traveled to his village.

The victim had  escaped from a church which was allegedly praying for  his deteriorating mental state.

Otuko was rushed to Katakwi General Hospital where he was later referred to Soroti Regional Hospital, Unfortunately he passed away before setting off to Soroti.

“police have visited the scene, conveyed the body of the deceased to Katakwi General Hospital, registered the incident vide Katakwi CRB 518/2023 and are currently tracing for suspects pending their arrest” Ageca said.

“We have noted with concern the retaliatory activity by the relatives of the deceased who attacked the homes of the suspects and burnt two huts and took away some cattle, sheep and other assorted items. We have deployed to stop any further retaliatory incidents in the community and have also recovered two cows that had been illegally appropriated”, he added.

Police therefore caution the public against revenge against supposed injustices but to look to the law. And further remind them that mob justice disenfranchises individual’s rights to fair hearing under the law that may cause innocent people to lose their lives as in the instant case.
