The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) have recovered seven head of cattle that were stolen by suspected cattle rustlers in the past three weeks.
The seven animals are part of the 10 which were stolen by the suspected rustlers in the three sub-counties of Ngariam, Magoro and Guyaguya sub-counties in Katakwi district.
Rtd Maj. Godfrey Katamba, the Katakwi Resident District Commissioner, confirmed saying efforts are on to trace these people. Surveillance and intelligence have been intensified in Pian and Nabilatuk to recover more animals.
“The animals were pursued and recovered by the Government forces in Nabilatuk district in the Karamoja sub-region.” said Katamba.
Katamba also explained that they want to ensure that the place is watertight in terms of deployment
He however was quick to note that the raiders had taken advantage of the ongoing reorganization of the troops in the area.
“They took advantage of the realignment of our deployment.”
“However, i want to reassure the people of katakwi that the security forces are working day and night to ensure they are safe and their property too.” said Katamba.
