32 year old man identified as Denis Mujomba, a student at Kenya Aviation School, had been staying at Tedwills Guest House in Soroti City’s Nakatunya Ward for about two weeks. On a quiet Wednesday morning, around 5 a.m., his life came to a tragic end.
The morning began with a frantic call from Caroline Alio, the guest house manager, to the police. Alio reported that one of their guests had been found dead under suspicious circumstances. Soroti West Division Police Commander, Muhammad Rashid Byansi, responded to the scene, where it appeared that Mujomba had been strangled.
Originally from Kenya, Mujomba had reportedly been living in the senior quarters in Soroti with his wife before moving to the guest house with a visiting girlfriend. He had checked in with his girlfriend, Roy Rita Nabassumba, who has now been taken into custody as the prime suspect in the case.
Meanwhile Byansi noted that the guest house staff, including the manager, receptionist, and security personnel (askari), are cooperating with the police to help uncover the circumstances leading to Mujomba’s death.
