Kiira North Division’s Divisional Police Commander (DPC) Buwenge SP Oyee Morris has vowed to ensure justice is served in the murder case of Gusango Paul. Paul is suspected to have died from injuries inflicted by police officers and in-laws during his arrest. SP Oyee made these remarks while addressing mourners, the bereaved family, and friends of Gusango Paul at Kibundaire village in Namagera Town Council. The community had been planning to dump Paul’s body at Buwenge Police Station to protest the involvement of police officers in his death.
In his address, SP Oyee assured the mourners that justice would be served without favoritism or fear. He emphasized that the police would thoroughly investigate the case and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
The District Chairperson of Jinja District, Batwala Moses, along with a delegation of leaders including Ali Kirume, the Personal Assistant to Hon. Katali Loy, warned SP Oyee against attempting to downplay the case. They insisted that the three police officers charged in connection with Paul’s death must appear in court to face justice.
Medadi Pengere, the uncle of the deceased, urged the DPC and his team to provide assistance to the grieving family. He likened their situation to that of road accident victims, who often receive support from the responsible drivers. Pengere also cautioned the police against underestimating the community’s resolve. He emphasized that while the community had refrained from attacking the police officers involved, they would not hesitate to take action against the in-laws if justice is not served.
The situation in Kibundaire remains tense as the community demands accountability and justice for Gusango Paul. The DPC’s commitment to ensuring a fair investigation will be crucial in restoring trust and calming the community’s anger
